I mentioned my Thermosoles recently and this morning was a good test drive. They kept my toes at just the right temperature whitout feeling "warm" (they are thermostatically controlled).
I am using these inside my Pearl Izumi mountain shoes and I have a new set of Gore Bike Wear "Windstopper" overshoes which are nice and warm and water "resistant" (I tried dribbling some water over them and it just rolled off but a bit of rubbing and it absorbed a bit). I think that should do for the sub-freezing weather.
I have used them previously with a thin pair of over shoes and with none
and I stayed warm both for my commute in and my ride home on a single charge.
